Putting the Nurture Back into Nutrition

Long before the Roadmap Ends Here: Entering Adulthood and First Comes Self-Love, Then Comes Marriage, my first idea of a name for a book that I would one day write was: Putting the Nurture Back into Nutrition.

I just didn’t feel I had enough material. Well, that has changed in the past several months (if this is your first time reading—I birthed a child 10 months ago ;)) and I am beginning to have many more related thoughts on this topic.

Whether you are breastfeeding, pumping, or feeding formula, I think we can all agree that feeding is just as much about emotional bonding as it is about physical nourishment. In fact, I think the message behind the evolutionary mechanism of breastfeeding is just that! A woman producing milk in her body to sustain the life of her child in its early months is meant to introduce us to this idea that food is not only biologically nurturing, but is intertwined with emotional connection and nurturing.
