Be Self-Aware, NOT Self-Conscious!

Last I blogged, I felt distracted that I had misspelled a word. Then I noticed the root of wanting to fix something in this blog, or any blog or writing, was to take away that feeling that I did something wrong. This fear comes up when I seem to have made a mistake, but it is not caused by the mistake—rather it lies within me always, and is triggered by the mistake.

Then I thought, “It is good that I can notice and observe these things in myself.”

Self-awareness—being mindful of one’s thoughts and feelings is a good skill to cultivate. On the other hand, being self-conscious—always wondering what other people are thinking of you and fearing they are judging you—THAT is not so great.

Be Self-AWARE, NOT Self-CONSCIOUS!
